I was commissioned by BlinkINK to score a short documentary about the history and philosophy of Arup, the design engineering and architecture firm behind some of the world's most stunning buildings and environments (Sydney Opera House, Pompidou Centre among countless others).
The purpose of the score is to support the interviews and help knit together the overall narrative about Arup's values and aims - The main instrumentation is strings and pianos forming a light positive bed, with other instruments punctuating certain shots and quotes, building toward the uplifting vision of the future at the end of the film. This minimalistic style with the simple rhythmic and melodic foundation supporting the decorative flourishes, reflects the architecture and design we see on screen.
